Most people pick the platform first

Almost everybody arrives at this decision with a platform name already in mind, and that is the expensive part. Our web design service page covers the full scope including stores, and the Dallas market is the nearest comparable market we have already written up. We work across Texas and nationwide.

It is usually a recommendation rather than a decision, and the cost only shows up later, when you find out which system you actually needed while already paying to move. The questions below are the ones that decide the build. Answer them and the platform is close to chosen for you.

The questions, in the order worth asking them

  1. Does money change hands on the site?

    Question one

Not whether you sell things, but whether the transaction happens here. Taking payment online is a different build from describing what you sell and being called about it, and it is the single largest fork in this decision.

  2. Does anything have to stay correct on its own?

    Question two

Stock levels, availability, pricing that changes. Anything that has to stay true without somebody remembering to update it needs a system behind it rather than a page somebody edits.

  3. Who changes the content, and how often?

    Question three

If somebody inside the business needs to add work, change prices or post an update without calling anyone, that has to be built for. If the site will barely change after launch, building for it is money spent on nothing.

  4. Does it have to talk to anything else?

    Question four

Accounting, scheduling, inventory, a booking system. An integration is usually the most expensive requirement on a project and the one most often discovered late.

  5. Is it a product with a price, or a job that needs quoting?

    Question five

A fixed product sells itself with a button. Work that has to be scoped sells itself with a conversation, and building a checkout for it just adds a step nobody uses.

When a store is the right answer, and when it is not

Both of these are common in a market this size, and the wrong one is expensive in a way that is hard to reverse.

A store makes sense

You are selling defined products at published prices.

Someone can decide to buy without talking to you first, the price does not depend on their situation, and the volume is enough that taking orders by phone or email is genuinely costing you time.

If that is you, the build is larger, it needs stock and payment handled properly, and the scale of it should match the volume rather than the ambition. A business taking a handful of orders a month should not buy the system built for a hundred a day.

A store does not

The work has to be quoted before anyone can buy it.

If what you sell varies by the job, a checkout adds a step nobody completes and a system nobody maintains. The site's job is to get the conversation started with enough context that the quote is quick.

That is a smaller and cheaper build, and it converts better for this kind of business than a store would. We would rather scope that than sell you a store you will switch off.

Questions Mesquite businesses ask

What does a website project cost?

Six thousand dollars is the floor for any web design project with us, stores included. Where it lands depends on the answers to the five questions above, particularly whether payment is taken on the site and whether anything has to integrate with software you already run.

Do I need a store or just a website?

You need a store if someone can decide to buy without talking to you and the price does not depend on their situation. If what you sell has to be quoted, a checkout adds a step nobody completes, and the site's job is to start the conversation instead.

Does my Google Business Profile matter for this?

Your Google Business Profile is the part that turns on an address, and eligibility follows how your business operates: a location customers can visit, or a business that travels to them.

Who owns the site and the store data at the end?

You do, from day one. The code, the content, the domain, the hosting account, the analytics property and any store or payment account are in your name, so your order history and customer records stay yours.
